Sportshall Athletics was created in 1976 by George Bunner so that youngsters at his local athletics club could continue to train indoors on dark winter nights. Sportshall became so popular that a format for competition soon developed and the first UK Championships were staged in 1980. ISABELLE Neville and Thomas Randolph claimed gold medals at the Aviva Sportshall UK National Final in Birmingham.
Teams from all over the United Kingdom were represented at the competition with Neville claiming gold in the under-13s speed bounce with 87.
She also finished second in her four lap heat which gave her seventh position overall.

Next generation of athletes shine at Aviva Sportshall - Telegraph:
Phoebe White from Birmingham and Benedict Millson from North Yorkshire have emerged as future athletics stars after winning the U15 All-Rounder competitions at the Aviva Sportshall Athletics UK Final.
They join an illustrious group of previous recipients of the prize, which includes sprinter Mark Lewis Francis, heptathlete Kelly Sotherton and long jumper Jade Surman. The All-Rounder event amalgamates an athlete’s points to find the best individually skilled athlete in the country.
The Sportshall event sees the leading young athletes from across the UK represent their counties in an exciting team-based competition, which starts in October.

Birmingham’s NEC was host to a fantastic Aviva Sportshall Athletics UK Final on Saturday 21st April, where nearly 500 athletes took part on the day, with 23 Counties represented.
The event, which sees the leading young athletes from across the UK representing their Counties in an exciting team based competition, provided a wonderful finale to a pathway which for most athletes started in October.
Now in its 29th year and an established fixture in the calendar of any aspiring young Athlete, the final was formally opened by current GB High Jumper Robbie Grabarz. Whilst Robbie will have to wait until June to confirm his Olympic place, the future stars were suitably inspired and the event witnessed some tremendous performances with two new UK records being set.

Car Parking and Entry
The location map clearly details the LG Arena and adjacent car parks. Directions to the appropriate car park will be provided on arrival. The doors will open at 12.00 noon(the NEC will not allow any athlete, spectator or official entry into the arena prior to this time). Again, signage will direct you to the main entrance. Please note that the standard car parking fee at the NEC is £8.00.
Security
For health and safety reasons, NEC staff will not permit certain items to be brought into the Arena. This includes cans, flasks, glass bottles, air horns and balloons. In addition, pushchairs will not be allowed into the Arena. Banners with poles over 12" should only be brought into the NEC by competitors. These will be taken to the Arena Floor and will not be permitted in the seating areas. Your help in sharing this detail with athletes and supporters is welcomed.
Photography and Video Recording
It is appreciated that many team managers and spectators may wish to take photographs and or record images. The taking of photographs and the recording of images will be permitted from the seating areas only. Spectators will not be required to register for use of cameras.
Please note that only accredited photographers and camera operators will be permitted access to the Arena floor on the grounds of health and safety and the welfare of young people. The number of accreditations being permitted will be restricted.
A number of professional photographers will be attending the UK Final, providing coverage for national, regional and local media. Some will be offering photographs for sale both during and after the event. Full details of their services will be available on the day. A number of these photographs will be used in post event publicity and may be used by Sportshall in future event and promotional literature. All photographers receiving accreditation will be expected to observe Sportshall’s Guidelines governing Photography and Video Recording.
